Where Do I Start?

When planning your trip to the SCHRC, make a list of what you are looking for prior to coming.  A preliminary list helps you to focus on your goals and make the best use of your time.  We'd also suggest that you stop at the SCHRC before going to the Sheboygan County Register of Deeds office - we believe that we can make your search for vital statistics much speedier if you stop to see us first.

Bring along some or all of your research (whatever you can carry comfortably) so that you have a guide of names and dates to work from.  This way there is less chance of repetition and more chance of finding new information.

Laptops are welcome, providing they can run on battery power. We do not allow scanners, digital cameras or camera phones.

If this is your first time doing genealogy, compile a list of what you know about your family when they lived in Sheboygan County - whether it involves a certain time period, a specific township, a family cemetery, etc. - it will help with your search.

The research assistants at the Research Center will help you in using the library - they are very knowledgable about the holdings and will help you find those long lost relatives.  We love a new mystery!

** Plan adequate time into your schedule for your visit to the Research Center - an hour or two is often not enough.**
