Collection Spotlight

Each week or two this area will showcase new and interesting parts of the Historical Research Center collection. Items will come from the archive, the photos, newspapers, general files and the library itself. We'll show you some of the great slide shows available at SCHRC, the post card collections, the videos and movies all housed here. This is where the fun stuff shows up.

Pictured is one page from a ledger or patient transfer log from the Sheboygan County Comprehensive Healthcare facility. It is one of a series of nine books documenting residents of the facility.

It is important to remember that these valuable documents trace the lives of a group of individuals that often were hidden or lost to society. They suffered from mental illness or had developmental disabilities. These books help tell their story.

At the time of this entry the facility was called the County Asylum. Locally the facility was known as Five Corners.
